THE SALFORD YOUTH FILM FESTIVAL.

Salford Youth Film Festival was launched in 2008 with a special screening dedicated to films by or about young people. This year, thanks to support from Awards for All, and the dedication of our colleagues at CRIS, who have run the project, we have expanded the Youth Festival to a day-long event. We’ve given young film-buffs across the city a unique opportunity to really make this into their festival. We’ve handed this section of the programme over entirely, allowing them to select films, shape programmes, book guests and generally run the whole show. Films by, for and about young people, all selected and programmed by young people themselves.  There’s dark comedy and gentle documentaries but also expect interactive workshops, inspirational speakers and an international flavour. There's even a special prize for the ‘Best Film’ from last year’s festival entries. Hundreds of young people across the city have been casting their votes and the winner will be announced at Salford Arts Theatre at 6pm.

He was Salford's Welles and King of Manchester Exploitation movies. He was a pioneer of independent filmmaking in the region. And now there's a book. You should own it.
